Quarterly Insights for LWT Members
|
|
|
The Lake Wānaka Tourism's Quarterly Visitor Data Snapshots aim to provide members with access to topline information about the prior quarter’s performance. These insights have been gathered from the LWT Visitor Insights Dashboard. The Visitor Insights Dashboard provides members and stakeholders access to clear visitor data and RTO-led research, supporting informed business decision-making.
New: Visitation Data: Visitor Volume Estimates (VVEs) LWT and DQ is pleased to incorporate a new visitation estimate data source created in collaboration tourism data experts Vistr. This estimate, known as Visitor Volume Estimates (VVE), relies on mobile data location “pings,” similar to the now discontinued Visitor Local Population Estimates (VLPEs), but with different methodology believed to better reflect regional visitor counts. The VVEs have been integrated into the Visitor Insights Dashboard and for further information about this source click here.
New: Visitor Economy Insights Resource The new Visitor Economy Insights Resource produced in collaboration with DQ, provides a comprehensive summary of key statistics, data, and insights. It will be updated in August (for year end June) and February (for year end December), and can be found on the Insights & Research page of the Visitor Insights Dashboard.
Access the latest Visitor Economy Insights Resource for year ending June 2024.
April - June 2024 (Q4 FY23-24) Overview
From April to June 2024, the new VVEs indicate that Wānaka hosted over 612,000 visitor days, a 9% drop from 2023 but still well above the same period in 2022.
International visitor days rose by 20%, while domestic visitor days fell by 17%. Which may reflect higher living costs and reduced discretionary spending in New Zealand and Australia.
Visitor spending increased by 2%, with a notable 23% rise in international expenditure.
Commercial accommodation guest nights dropped by 10% to 138,000, but non-commercial property nights rose by 2% to 34,000.
The visitor experience score remained stable, with Net Promoter Scores (NPS) at 70 over the past year and 73 in the last three months, well above the New Zealand NPS average.
Note: expenditure figures aren't inflation-adjusted.

VISITATION - CUMULATIVE VISITOR ESTIMATES The cumulative visitor estimates represent the total number of daily visitors counted over a specific period of time - usually a month or quarter, regardless of whether visitors stay for multiple days. For example, if someone visits for three days, they are counted three times in the cumulative estimate. Further information.
