New Quarterly Insights for LWT Members
Lake Wānaka Tourism is delighted to launch a new quarterly visitor insights resource, in collaboration with Destination Queenstown. The Quarterly Visitor Data Snapshots aim to provide members with access to topline information about the prior quarter’s performance.

Visitor Insights Dashboard
These insights have been gathered from the LWT Visitor Insights Dashboard. The Visitor Insights Dashboard provides members and stakeholders with easy-to-understand visitor-related data and RTO-led research. With this, members and stakeholders should be able to draw their own insights to guide business decisions and activity. To learn more about the visitor insights dashboard we are holding a training session February 27 (10-11am or 2-3pm).

October - December 2023 (Q2 FY23-24) Overview
In the October - December 2023 period Wānaka's visitor expenditure reached $70m, a significant 27% increase on the same period 2019, driven by increases in domestic and international visitor expenditure. There was a small 3% decline on the same period in 2022 due to a 15% decline in domestic visitor expenditure.  Commercial Accommodation guest nights increased by 14% compared to the same period in 2022. Average occupancy decreased to 36% in October following the winter ski season and increased to 55% in December. Wānaka's visitor experience results continue to build with Net Promoter Score reaching 72 for the last 6 months and a slight dip to 69 for the last 3 months.

Note: expenditure figures aren't inflation-adjusted, NPS scores are indicative while the Lake Wānaka Tourism and Destination Queenstown's visitor experience survey builds sample size.

VISITOR EXPERIENCE
The Visitor Experience Survey is a survey of visitors to the Queenstown Lakes district. The results are shared quarterly and outline a variety of experience aspects including; visitor motivations, connection with people and place, activities/attractions, net promoter score, and overall visitor experience satisfaction. The Visitor Experience Survey is Destination Queenstown and Lake Wānaka Tourism's collaborative research initiative facilitated by tourism research experts Angus & Associates.

Wānaka currently has a low sample size and results are to be treated as indicative until a valid sample size is reached.

EXPENDITURE
Visitor expenditure refers to money spent on tourism-related activities while in Wānaka. LWT uses Worldline Marketview visitor spend figures as our expenditure measure. Worldline Marketview visitor expenditure is based on visitor in-person card transactions and does not include estimates for cash, online transactions and pre-bookings.

ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation data is drawn from the Accommodation Data Programme. It provides insights into the total number of guest nights and occupancy in commercial accommodation providers.
